Edward A. Lioen

Edward A. Lioen, 88, of Rock Island, died Friday, July 14, 2017 at the Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood, Ill.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11 am on Thursday, July 27, 2017 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island.  The family will greet friends from 10 am until service time at the church.  Private inurnment will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island.  Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family.  Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island or to the Congregation of the Humility of Mary Sisters, Davenport.

Edward Lioen was born Oct. 26, 1928 in Moline, the son of Alfred and Erma Lannoo Lioen.  He married Joan Lehner on Sept. 16, 1950 in Davenport.

Ed graduated from St. Ambrose Academy and attended St. Ambrose College.  He retired in 1992 after over 40 years of service from Deere & Company, where he was Director, Pricing.

He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves during the Korean War.  Ed was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, where he was a Eucharistic Minister taking communion to various area nursing homes.  He was also a member of the Allouez Council 658 Knights of Columbus and a long-time member of the Rock Island Arsenal Golf Club.  Ed had a passion and love for his Church and the Catholic faith.

Survivors include his wife, Joan; son, Mark Lioen, Rock Island; daughter and son-in-law, Therese and Jeffery Bloom, Bettendorf; grandchildren, Anna (Kwanza) Morgan, Michael (Stephanie) Lioen, David Bloom, Sarah (Sante) Piracci and Thomas Bloom; and great-grandchildren, Anthony and Kalai Lioen, Kieran and Charlize Morgan and Michael and John Piracci.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and sons, Kevin and David Lioen.
