Everett A. Thompson

                Everett A. Thompson, 94, formerly of Rural Township, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 27, 2017 at Silver Cross Nursing and Rehabilitation Pavilion.  He was born the 5th of 6 children to William and Elizabeth Thompson.  He was preceeded in death by his parents; brothers Bill, Vernon, Richard; and sisters, Violet and Adeline.  He is survived by his wife of 71 years, Ruth; his daughter and son-in-law, Alene and George Humphrey; grandson Michael and great-grandchildren, Kathryn Rose and Ryan.

                He was true member of the "Greatest Generation," serving in the Vavy during WWII on the destroyer USS Macomb.  He saw action off the coast of North Africa, Italy  and the North Atlantic.  He also served in the Pacific during the invasion of Okinawa and shis ship cleared the mines from Tokyo Bvay for the Japanese surrender ceremony.

                Everett owned and operated his own farm while also working at John Deere Harvester for more than 25 years.  He was a good loving husband and father who never spoke a disparaging word about anyone.  He will be missed by a small but loving family.

                Interment was held at the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island on Monday, May 1, 2017.  Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, Milan, assisted the family with arrangements.

                The family would like to express their appreciation and thanks to Everett's caregivers from Unity Point Hospice.
