Gary Garfield Newman

Gary G. Newman, 67, of Moline, passed away Tuesday, April 26, 2016 at UnityPoint Health - Trinity, Rock Island.  A Funeral Service for Gary will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island.  Visitation will be held on Friday evening from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m.  at the funeral home.  Per Gary's wishes, cremation rites will be accorded following services.  Memorials may be made in care of the family.

Gary was born on August 4, 1948 in Cambridge, Illinois, the son of the late Wilbur G. and Beverly J. (Brown) Newman.  He married Linda Fittro on December 28, 1968 at Memorial Heights Church in Rock Island.  Gary was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving from '68-'71.  He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 2009, following 38 years of service. 

Gary was a perfectionist who greatly enjoyed organizing and labeling all of his belongings.  He spent lots of time tinkering; whether it be in his office at home or on a car in the garage.  He was an avid NASCAR and Minnesota Vikings fan; over the years he compiled a large memorabilia collection for the two. 

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Linda; daughter, Melanie (Tuan) Dang, Moline; son, Daniel (Brianne) Newman, Huntsville, Ala.; grandchildren, Brittany Guthrie, Rock Island, Ragan Bax, Indianapolis, Ind. and Tyler, Jacalyn, Leigha and Riley Newman, Huntsville, Ala.; great grandchildren, Jaida and Karlie Guthrie and one on the way; brother in law, Kenneth Fittro; sisters in law, Millie Mills and Susan (John) Steves.  He was also survived by several nieces, nephews and other loving family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers in law
