Helen M. (Gustafson) Allison

Helen Hultgren Allison, 85, a resident of Avonlea Cottage, Milan, formerly of Andover, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2017.

Funeral services are 11 am on Monday at Augustana Lutheran Church, Andover.  Burial is at the Andover Cemetery.  Visitation is 4 to 7 pm Sunday at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Augustana Lutheran Church or to Avonlea Cottage.

Helen M. Gustafson was born June 12, 1932 in Moline, a daughter of Hjalmer and Olga Blank Gustafson.  She married John R. Hultgren on Aug. 27, 1950 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Edford Township.  He died July 18, 1986.  Helen later married James D. Allison on Nov. 10, 1990 in Andover.  He died Feb. 25, 2007.

She graduated from Woodhull High School and served as Postmaster in Lynn Center for 21 years.

Helen was a member of Augustana Lutheran Church and its Peace Circle.  She was also a member of the Andover American Legion Auxiliary.

Survivors include her children, Jeanine (Jerry) Lees, Orion, Carol (Rod) Lambert, O’Fallon, Mo., Daniel (Sue) Hultgren, Naperville, and Beth (Don) Easterla, Andalusia; stepdaughter, Cheryl (Larry) Spengler, Cable; grandchildren, Nicole (Craig), Jeremy, Mason, Samantha (Joe), and Jon; several step grandchildren; great-grandchildren and step great-grandchildren; sister, Alice Jean (Chester) Esters, Alpha; and numerous nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husbands; and brothers, Carl and Bill Gustafson.
