Hollis Wayne Ward

Hollis Wayne Ward, 69, of Rock Island, passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Hope Creek Care Center, East Moline.  Funeral services for Wayne will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island with the Rev. Donald William Johnson officiating.  Visitation will be 2:00 p.m.  to 4:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.  Cremation rites will be accorded following services.  Private inurnment will be held at a later date in Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island.  Memorials may be made in care of the Rock Island High School Class of 1965 Scholarship Fund.

Wayne was born on July 11, 1947 in Fayette Co., Alabama, the son of Hollis G. and Bernice (Conner) Ward.   Wayne served his country in the U.S. Army in Vietnam.  He married Patti Ward on March 23, 1974 in Ft. Myers, Florida and they remained lifelong friends.  Wayne worked in food service while living in Florida.  He greatly enjoyed spending time with friends, fishing and traveling.  Wayne was also an accomplished student and teacher of martial arts and he earned a black belt in Tae Kwon Do.

Left to cherish his memory are his friends and caretakers; Herb and Judy Crompton of Sherrard, the Schmidt family, and the Silvis family.

 He was preceded in death by his parents.
