Lucienne P. (Smarjesse) Knapp

Lucienne P. Knapp, 93, of Rock Island, died Friday, December 15, 2017 at Elmhurst Memorial Hospital, Elmhurst, Ill. Funeral services are 11 am on Friday at South Park Presbyterian Church, Rock Island. Burial is at Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 9:30 am until service time on Friday at the church. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to South Park Presbyterian Church. Lucienne Smarjesse was born Nov. 25, 1924 in Rock Island, the daughter of Andrew and Edna DeVoe Smarjesse. She married Frank E. Knapp on May 7, 1944 in Rock Island. Family and church were her top priorities. As a member of South Park Presbyterian Church, she served on the Session and was involved in the Circle of Virtue Guild, as well as numerous committees and activities. She especially loved baking for any church event and was always willing to help wherever she was needed. She enjoyed her King’s Daughters meetings and spending time with friends. For many years she volunteered for Churches United and Red Cross. She had been an avid camper most of her adult life and along with her husband, were charter members of Family Campers on Wheels. Survivors include her daughters, Rita Greathouse, Rock Island, and Bonnie (Dr. Robert) Marion, Des Moines; grandchildren, Joel (Branwyn) Greathouse, Erin (Christian)Ballman and Rebecca Marion; great grandchildren, Jillian, Norah and Charlie Ballman and Conrad Greathouse. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Frank; son, Kenneth Knapp; grandson Tyler Greathouse; and sister, Marcia McClellan. Online condolences may be left at wheelanpressly.com.
