Richard D. "Dick" Black

Richard D. "Dick" Black, 85, of Moline, formerly of Rock Island, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline, with his loving family at his side.

In accordance with Richards wishes, private family services will be held at Rock Island Memorial Park Mausoleum, where he will be entombed with his beloved wife, Elaine Black. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home & Crematory, Rock Island is assisting the family.

Richard was born on December 30, 1930 in Chariton, Iowa, the son of  Cloyd and Iona Grant Black. The Black family moved to Rock Island when Richard was a youth and he graduated from Rock Island High School in 1949.

He married his wife, Elaine on October 18, 1953 in Rock Island and was a loving, and devoted husband until her death on April 8, 2015.

Richard worked for the Rock Island Arsenal for 36 years and retired as the Chief of Equipment Maintenance in 1986. He later worked for Rock Island County as a bailiff.

Richard was an avid supporter of Quad Cities high school sports and served as president of the Rock Island Booster Club for many years. He also served on the Rock Island Milan School Board.

Those left to honor his life include daughters and sons in law, Cindi and Keith Bumgardner, Buckeye, Az., Julianne and Rodney Harper, Geneseo, and Lori and Bill Sheets, Moline; cherished grandchildren, Matthew (Jen) Cutkomp, Christopher Cutkomp, Tarrah (Todd) Reed, Lindsey Jones, Carey Sheets, Ryan (Jillian) Sheets, and Jacob (Ashley)Sheets; and seven precious great grandchildren.

Richard  was preceded in death by his wife, Elaine; his parents; and a granddaughter, Jenifer Cutkomp.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at Heartland Health Care Center for their care of Richard and Elaine. Memorials can be made to the Quad City Animal Welfare Center, Milan.
