Virginia I. (Nickel) Kean

                Virginia I. Kean, 86, of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2018 at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island. 

                Funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Friday, January 26,2018 at The Knox Chapel of Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 2106 7th Ave., Rock Island.  Visitation will be from 4 pm to 7 pm on Thursday, January 25, 2018 at The Knox Chapel.  Burial will be at Rock Island Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island.  Memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Rock Island.

                Virginia was born on January 28, 1931 in Concord, IL, the daughter of Clyde and Letha (Mason) Nickel.  She married George R. Kean on March 6, 1949 in Rock Island.  She was employed as the school secretary for the Rock Island School District.  During her younger years she loved to ice skate, and play the organ and accordion.  She enjoyed being outdoors especially landscaping, gardening, and going to watch her grandchildren’s sporting events.  Virginia was an avid reader and seamstress, known for sewing wedding dresses.    

                Virginia is survived by her husband of 68 years, George Kean; children, Karen (Pete) Nyman, Steve (Karen) Kean, and Kathi (Craig) Allison; grandchildren, Brad (Dannie) Wilson, Jennifer Mendoza and her fiancé, Eric Lindburg, Doug (Jen) Kean, Becky (Chad) Kennelly, Ryan (Amanda) Allison, and Tyler (Hannah) Allison; step grandchildren, Chris (Monica) Nyman and Kris (Kim) Meyer; great grandchildren, Makayla, Kylie, Robbie, Caden, Justin, Ryan, Kenzie, Ridley, Calla, Chase, Camden, Brynlee, Reid.  She was preceded in death by her parents and sister, Doris Stitcher.
