Jennie O. Frances, 99, a resident of Oak Glen Home in Coal Valley, passed away Wednesday February 20, 2008 following a brief illness and hospitalization at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island. Mrs. Frances was born in East Chicago, IL on January 17, 1909 to John C. Goulding and Vinnie S. Allcut Goulding. She graduated from Blue Island High School in Blue Island, IL in 1926. She was married to Ernest S. Lomen in 1929 and they had three sons, John J. Lomen, David E. Lomen, and Thomas G. Lomen. Ernest Lomen passed away in 1965. Jennie was later married to Michael Frances. Mrs. Frances was a resident of Milan for over 65 years and a resident of the tri-cities area for over 75 years. She was employed at the Rock Island Arsenal as a programmer and supervisor, working on the original main frame computers. Her career spanned decades and included promotions and recognition for specific contributions and time served on the job. A member of Immanuel Lutheran Church since 1932, she was especially committed to Lutheran Education. She wrote poetry throughout her life and enjoyed gardening and crocheting. Jennie was the devoted and beloved matriarch of the Goulding, Lomen, and Frances families. She was predeceased by her two sisters and two brothers, two husbands, and three sons. Mrs. Frances is survived by 13 grandchildren, step grandchildren, great and great great grandchildren, nieces, and daughters-in-law. Jenny was an extraordinary woman who will be missed dearly by her friends and family.
