Virgil L. McCollum, 75, of Milan, died Friday, March 21, 2008 at Pathway Hospice in Bettendorf, Ia after an extended illness. Services are 10:00 a.m. Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Burial with military honors will be in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Pathway Hospice or First Presbyterian Church (Elevator Fund). Virgil was born March 14, 1933 in Mendon, Mo. to James L and Anabel (Craig) McCollum. He married Judith M Hamm, Oct 29th, 1953 in Denmark, Ia. Virgil served in the US Navy during the Korean war aboard the USS Juneau. After he got out of the navy, he worked for Meadow Gold Dairy in Moline as a Milk route supervisor. He went on to work for Kraft Foods as a salesman, retiring in 1989. After retiring from Kraft, he worked for Shullsburg Cheese as a salesman. Virgil enjoyed fishing, scuba diving, playing cards and visiting his second home in Brownsville, Tx. during the winter months. Virgil loved his church, 1st Presbyterian of Milan. He volunteered for many years at St. Anthonys Continuing Care Center, Rock Island. He is survived by his wife, Son: Michael D (Annmarie) McCollum of East Moline, Il. Daughters: Christine (Doug) Burger of Atlanta, Ga, Joanna (Tony) Reynolds of East Moline. 7 grandchildren and 13 Great grandchildren. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Mildred Sullivan of Moline and Hildred (Pete) Garr of Brookfield, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, James Jr., Howard, and Jack and a granddaughter, Adrianne Leigh Reynolds.
