| Kathryn J. “Kitty” Gula, 85, of Rock Island, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation is 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, where a Christian wake service will be held at 5:30 p.m. Memorials may be left with the family for a memorial to be established later.
The former Kathryn Jurcin was born on Apr. 8, 1922 in Chicago, a daughter of George and Mary Jurcin. She married Edward J. Gula on February 7, 1953 in Chicago. He died December 18, 2004.
Kitty worked most her life and was fortunate to have experienced several different careers, including retail sales, was a licensed beautician, a veterinary assistant and a secretary.
She was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church.
Kitty always spoke her mind, whether others wanted to hear it or not, and those who knew her loved her honesty and humor. She will forever be remembered as a woman of courage, determination, and devotion who loved her family, especially her grandchildren, deeply.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Denise and Dr. Gene Strathdee, Moline; grandchildren, Ian Strathdee, Moline and Erin Strathdee, St. Louis.
