Eugenio Garza Siller, 88, of Rock Island, died Monday April 7, 2008 at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island. Services are 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home, with a rosary at 12:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to Friendship Manor, Rock Island. Eugenio was born September 28, 1919 in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico, a son of Leon Garza and Juanita Siller Garza. He married the former Hortensia Hernandez on April 19, 1943 in Nuevo Laredo, Mexico. She preceded him in death on April 10, 1974. In his younger years, in Mexico, he worked in construction and home building. He became an American Citizen on August 3, 1970. For a number of years he was a maintenance man for St. Augustine Church, Laredo, Texas. Locally, he worked in the public works department for the city of East Moline for 12 years. He retired in 1982. He was a loving father and grandfather. He especially enjoyed spending time with friends and family. He will be greatly missed by all. Surviving are his children (and spouses), Martha (Martin) Mata, Rock Island; Roy (Carol) Garza, Bloomington, IL; Thelma (George) Smith, Phoenix, AZ, Jesus (Antonia) Garza, Bloomington, Hugo (Shashella) Garza, Bloomington, Arturo (Kristina) Garza, Bloomington, and Alonso (Sheila) Garza, Indianapolis, IN ; twelve grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one brother and four sisters. His parents, wife, a son, Eugenio Garza Jr., and one brother preceded him in death.
