Linnea Skarp, 86, of Milan, passed away on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday, April 20, 2008 at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Funeral services will be at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, April 21, 2008 at First Presbyterian Church, Milan. Burial is in the Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the elevator fund at First Presbyterian Church, Milan.
Linnea was born July 5, 1921, a daughter of Gustaf and Maydie Gitt Berg. She married Viking Skarp on August 12, 1938. At the age of 19 she became the Agency manager in the Milan office of Illinois Bell Telephone Company. She later was employed as the telephone operator supervisor at Moline Public Hospital for 26 years.
She was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Milan, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and directed the junior choir. She was a member of the Pythian Sisters, Milan’s Loyal Order of Kings Daughters and the Rock Island Historical Society. She was a founding member of the Moline Public Hospital Retirees’ Club and served as its first president.
Linnea was a wonderful wife, sister, aunt and friend who loved babysitting her nieces and great-nephews. She also enjoyed music, traveling, photography, scrapbooking and collecting spoons, stamps, and postcards.
Linnea’s family would like to express its thanks to the staff at Heartland Health Care Center and the workers and volunteers from Trinity Hospice for their wonderful care and support.
Survivors (and spouses) include her sister, Betty (Lee) Tobin, Milan; nieces, Susan (John) Schneider, Rock Island and Linda Tobin, Milan; great-nephews, Adam and Blake Schneider, Rock Island; numerous nieces and nephews in Sweden; and step-great-nephews, Eric Schneider, Florida and Jack Schneider, Milan. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, sister, Eda Berg, two brothers and a sister in infancy, and an infant niece.
