Jessie Myles, Sr., 63, of Rock Island, died Wednesday April 16, 2008 at Trinity Medical Center, West Campus, Rock Island.
Services are 2:00 p.m. today at Olivet Baptist Church, Rock Island. Burial will be in Friars Point Cemetery, Friars Point, MS, on Wednesday April 23, 2008. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, assisted the family with local arrangements.
Jessie was born October 18, 1944 in Friars Point, a son of Dudlie and Bertha (Luster) Myles. He married Mary Lee Jones in Friars Point on December 19, 1965.
He was a mechanic with Mills Chevrolet for 8 years and later for Horst-Zimmerman for 4 years. He then owned and operated his own mechanic service for 6 years. For the last 13 years, he has been employed with Group O, Milan.
Jessie was a member of Olivet Baptist Church, a gospel singer, director of the Male choir of the church, and played lead guitar for the choir. He was a member of the Royal Harmonaires Gospel Singers.
Surviving are his wife, Mary Lee of Clarksdale, MS, children, Katie Jean, Shirley, Daniel, Lenora, Jessie, Jr., and Victor, all of Clarksdale, Christopher, Sherry, and Rochelle, all of Rock Island; 31 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters (and spouses), Roscoe Myles, Clarksdale, Lester (Ollie) Myles, Sr., Friars Point, Willie (Peggy) Myles, Sr., David (Dereece) Myles, Sr., Gautier, MS, Wayne (Betty) Myles, Tupelo, MS, Marvin (Olivia) Myles, Kosciusko, MS, Raymond (Lucille) Myles, Charlotte, NC, and sister, Mary (Ezzard) Artis, Atlanta, GA; uncle, Albert Clash, Rock Island; aunt, Sylvania Shaw, Peoria, IL; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
His parents, son, Alvin, sister, Florida, and 8 aunts and uncles preceded him in death.
