John J. “Jack” Toohey, 86, a resident of Park Vista Quad Cities, East Moline, died Friday, May 30, 2008 at the Clarissa C. Cook Hospice House, Bettendorf.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at Christ The King Catholic Church, Moline. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island, where military honors will be presented by Moline American Legion Post 246. There is no visitation. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to a favorite charity.
Mr. Toohey was born on February 13, 1922 in Sioux City, Iowa, a son of Thomas and Florence Barton Toohey. He married Helen Greenwood and later married Jane E. Davis. She died in 1998.
Jack graduated from St. Ambrose College in 1949 and was a self employed accountant.
He was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of W.W. II.
Survivors include a daughter, Patricia McNally, Henderson, Nev.; sons and daughters-in-law, Timothy and Barbara Toohey, Normal, Ill., Thomas and Carey Toohey, Davenport and Michael and Linda Toohey, San Antonio, Tex.; nine grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Barton and Mary Barbara Toohey, Moline; a sister-in-law, Miriam Toohey, Wall, NJ and an aunt, Nora Toohey Burns, Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Jane; brother, Thomas and sister, Mary.
