Interment: Tuesday, August 12, 2008 at Memorial Park Cemetery, Moline, Ill.

Dina Gekas, 84, of East Moline, died Saturday, August 9, 2008 at Genesis Medical Center, Illini Campus, Silvis. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island. Burial is in Moline Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, where a prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. George Greek Orthodox Church. Dina Babe was born on July 2, 1924 in Madutheon, Euboia, Greece, a daughter of Dimitrios and Maria Babe. She married James C. Gekas on May 14, 1945 in Madutheon. He died April 6, 1998. She worked as a bridal consultant at the former Bridal Boutique and Lou Marge’s, both of Rock Island. Dina was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Rock Island, and the Philoptochos Society of the Church. She also attended Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, East Moline. Dina enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking, walking and returning to her native Greece to visit family and friends. Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Constantine “Gary” and Susan Gekas, Eden Prairie, Min., Theodore Gekas, Kansas City, Kan., and James and Lauren Gekas, East Moline; grandchildren, Angela McKay and her husband Rob, Shawnee Mission, Kan., Dr. James Gekas, Fayetteville, NC, Christina Gekas, Eden Prairie and Stephen and Mitchell Gekas, East Moline; great-grandchildren, Madison and Tyler McKay and Landon Gekas; a brother, Thomas Babe and sisters, Evagelista Soura and Pepitsa Bitzi, all of Greece and several nieces, nephews and extended family, also of Greece . She was preceded in death by her parents and husband.
