John O. Sneath Sr., 81, of Milan, died Saturday, August 23, 2008 at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf. Services for Mr. Sneath will be 1:00 pm, Tuesday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030-7th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation will be 6-8 pm, Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery, Davenport, where military rites will be accorded by the Milan American Legion Post No. 569/200 and the Rock Island V.F.W. No. 1303. Memorials may be made to the family. John was born on September 17, 1926 in Davenport, the son of John A. and Virginia Welch Sneath. Mr. Sneath worked as a bander operator for the Oscar Mayer Co. Davenport, retiring in 1988 after 36 years of service. He was a World War II and Korean Conflict veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy as a Gunner’s Mate. Mr. Sneath enjoyed bowling, dancing and was a life member of the Milan American Legion Post 569/200. Survivors include his daughters, Nina K. Pettingill, Rock Island, Tina Hastings and her husband, Charles, East Moline; sons, John O. Sneath Jr. and his wife, Dianna, Davenport, Robert D. Nelson and his wife, Linda, Davenport; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; a sister, Minnie Reynolds, Rock Island; along with several nieces and nephews.
