| June Elizabeth Gehlsen, 89, of East Moline, formerly of Rock Island, passed away Saturday October 18, 2008 at Genesis Medical Center – Illini Campus, Silvis.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30a.m., Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church. Burial will be in the Catholic Cemetery, Prophetstown. Memorials may be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church or St. Catherine’s Church, Prophetstown.
June was born on October 13, 1919 in Thomson, IL, the daughter of Hans J. and Clara C. (Brandt) Gehlsen.
She graduated from Lyndon High School in 1937. Then attended DeKalb Illinois State Teachers College(Northern Illinois University).
June was employed as Life Underwriter at Royal Neighbors of America, Rock Island for 43 years, retiring in 1984.
She volunteered at the former Franciscan Hospital (Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island) from 1984 to 2002. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rock Island, St. Mary’s Altar Society and Sigma Phi Gamma International Sorority.
Survivors include her sister in law, Andorothy Gehlsen, Davenport; nephews, William Gehlsen Jr., Rockford, Thomas Gehlsen, Ankeny, IA, Timothy Gehlsen, DeWitt, IA, Michael Gehlsen, Walcott, IA, Dr. Jeffrey Gehlsen, Freeport, IL, Dr. Mark Gehlsen, Eagan, MN; 17 great nieces and nephews and 8 great-great nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, William Gehlsen Sr.
