Edna E. Plasschaert, 84, of Milan, died Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Services for Mrs. Plasschaert will be 11 am Saturday at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Milan. Visitation will be Friday from 5-8 pm at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201-E. 4th Avenue, Milan, where a prayer service will be conducted at 5 pm. It was Edna wish that her remains be donated to the University of Iowa, Department of Anatomy for the advancement of medical research. Burial will be at a later date in the Rock Island National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the family. Edna was born January 31, 1924 in Kewanee, IL the daughter of Edward and Elise (Hawks) Thurwanger. She married Robert Plasschaert Sr. on October 6, 1945 in Kewanee; he preceded his wife in death on January 24, 2001. Mrs. Plasschaert worked for the Bituminous Insurance Co, as the night cleaning supervisor for 10 years, retiring in 1981. Her memberships include St. Ambrose Catholic Church, Legion of Mary, Blue Cross Mission, and the Milan VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 4177. Survivors include her children, Ann Saunders, Milan, Robert and (Linda) Plasschaert, Jr., Rock Island, Roy and (Cathy) Plasschaert, Rock Island, Ronald and (Suzie) Plasschaert, Jonesboro, TN; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a brother, Leroy Thurwanger, Ottawa, IL. Mrs. Plasschaert was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Sr., parents, 2 sisters and 6 brothers. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.wheelanpressly.com
