| Floraida (Barela)Scudder, 82, of Rock Island, died Thursday December 11, 2008 at St. Anthony’s Continuing Care Center, Rock Island
Services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, IL. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home, where a rosary will be recited at 5:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
Floraida was born September 24, 1926 in Vadito, New Mexico, a daughter of Evangeline (Romero) and Rueben Barela. She married Lloyd Scudder on November 18, 1953 in Madison, Indiana.
Flo was a homemaker most of her life. She taught elementary school in her hometown of Vadito. She later joined the service and was a Cpl. in the United States Army. She enjoyed raising her 7 children, a younger brother and her niece and nephew, 10 in all. She worked briefly as a nurse’s aide and helped raise her grandchildren. Flo enjoyed bowling, gardening, dancing, crocheting and going to bingo.
Surviving are her husband Lloyd, Rock Island; children, Linda Buckert, Redlands, CA, Sandra Gage, Valrico, FL, Ellen (Angelo) Anderson, Kerry (Tina) Scudder, and Michael (Patti )Scudder, all of Rock Island, John (Darlene)Scudder, Dubuque, IA, and David (Debbie)Scudder, Moline; niece Peggy (Tim) Shew, Silvis and nephew Donald (Kim) Webster, Rock Island; Grandchildren; Grant and Ryan Buckert, Jacob, Travis and Allison Scudder, Katie and Joseph Anderson; Dakota and Brandon Webster, Jeremy Murphy; brothers, John, Frutoso, and Sam Barela, NM, and Jimmy Barela, OK; sisters, Ruby Vasquez and Mela Vasquez, NM.
Preceding Floraida in death were her son in laws Ron Buckert and Jeffrey Gage.
