Charlotte A. Collins, 106, a resident of the Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island, died Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at the center.
Memorial services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Chapel of Friendship Manor, Rock Island. There will be a time to greet friends following the service. Private inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to Two Rivers United Methodist Church, Rock Island or to the Children’s Therapy Center, Moline.
Charlotte Plassmann was born on April 18, 1902 in McDonough County, Ill., a daughter of Frederick W. and Anna M. Brall Plassmann. She married Burr O. Collins. He died on November 15, 1958.
Charlotte graduated from the Western Illinois Teachers College in Macomb, Ill. She served as a school teacher in the Rock Island Public Schools for nearly 50 years and was teaching at Frances Willard Elementary School when she retired in 1967.
She was a member of Two Rivers United Methodist Church, Rock Island and the Blackhawk Chapter of the Retired Teachers Association. She was also a past board member of the Rock Island Crippled Children’s Foundation. Charlotte enjoyed knitting and was an avid Bridge player.
Survivors include a stepson, Frederick Collins, San Diego, Calif.; five step grandchildren; six step great grandchildren; a niece Anna Shaw, Blandinsville, Ill; and several great nieces and great nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Burr; a stepson, Richard B. Collins; sisters, Virginia Hocker and Erma and Frieda Plassmann; and a nephew, Frederick Gustafson.
