Violet L. “Vi” Schmitt, 89, of Rock Island, died Saturday March 21, 2009 at Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Trinity Church, Rock Island. Entombment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery Mausoleum. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Church, Heartland Hospice, or a favorite charity.
Violet Leona Tuttle was born July 31, 1919 in Tipton, Iowa, a daughter of John J. Tuttle and Elizabeth Emma Sweet Tuttle. She married Fred R. Schmitt on January 30, 1937 in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on June 19, 1982.
In earlier years Violet worked at the Coca-Cola Bottling Co., Rock Island. She later worked for A. Walter Wise, M.D. She then worked in the Inhalation Therapy Dept. of the former St. Anthony’s Hospital. Violet retired from Medical Arts, Moline, where she was a medical technician.
She was a member of Trinity Church and served as a volunteer at Franciscan Medical Center for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling, and dancing at the Col ballroom in Davenport.
Survivors include her daughters, Beverly Roberts, Rock Island, and Janice Dorgan, Davenport; grandchildren (and spouses), Teresa (Chris) Kingsbury, Austin, TX, Cathy (Jerry) Lack, East Moline, Sue (Jim) McKinnis, Flowermound, TX, Steve (Tracy) Dorgan, Bluegrass, IA, Tom (Kristi) Dorgan, Davenport; Craig (Cheryl) Litvin, Satellite Beach, FL, Timothy Litvin, Santa Cruz, CA, and Matthew Roberts, New York City, NY; great-grandchildren, Nick and Olivia Litvin, Kimberly McCaw, Laurel Begley, Chad, Eric, and Kellie Kingsbury, Jeff and Michelle Smith, Meghan and C.J. McKinnis, Cody Dorgan, Aaron Lorenz, Kyle and Kelsey Dorgan; great great-grandchildren, Kali and Sydney McCaw, Savannah and Alexander Smith; brother, John Tuttle, Spokane, WA; and numerous, nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Violet was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter, Renee’, sisters, Anna Mae and Bertha, and a brother Elmer.
