| Walter W. “Babe” Schmacht, 64, of Rock Island, passed away Wednesday March 25, 2009 at Trinity West Medical Center, after a short battle with lung cancer.
There will be a memorial service Sunday at the Eagles Club, Rock Island at 12:00 Noon. Memorials may be made to the family.
Babe was born on June 12, 1944 in Rock Island, the son of Carl and Isabel (Horton) Schmacht. He married Terry Balzer March 7, 1974. Then spent over 20 years with Roberta “Jean” Johnson till her death last April.
He enjoyed camping and a good party.
Survivors include his sons and daughters in law, William and Missy, Charles and Sandy, all of Rock Island and Donovan and Nikki, Bettendorf; grandchildren, Kristopher, Jonathon, Alexis, Abby, Joseph, Arry; siblings, Carl, Osco, IL, Eddie, Rock Island, Karen Ackerland, Bradenton, FL., Kathy Wilson, Cambridge, Ronnie, East Moline, Donnie(Pat), Page, AZ., Tommy, Moline.
He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 siblings and longtime friend Roberta Johnson.
