Maxie V. Nunn, 72, formerly of East St. Louis and now a resident of Rock Island Nursing and Rehab, passed away Saturday, June 6, 2009 at the rehab center.
Funeral services are Noon on Thursday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Burial is in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 11:00 a.m. until service time Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the family.
Maxie was born on September 6, 1936 in Louisville, Miss., the son of Lula Mae Nunn and Eldred Murry. He was raise by his grandparents, Will and Iona Nunn of Louisville. Maxie graduated from the Natty Water Public Schools in Louisville. He married Dorothy Liddell.
He was a steel worker in the East St. Louis area. Maxie was well known for his athletic abilities, his baseball skills and for being a good dancer. He enjoyed music, dressing nice and wearing his hats. Maxie was a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Louisville and Trinity Baptist, Moline.
Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, LaWanda and Ozell, Porter, Loredia and Rev. Larry Dixon and Latressa and Johnnie Jones, all of Rock Island, Tammy Nimmers, Moline, Pamela and Marvin Hudson, Rock Island and Shere McClain, East St. Louis; son, Anthony Nunn, St. Ann, MO; 13 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a host of other siblings (Murry Family) and three living aunts, Suretta Nunn, Noxapater, Miss., Leonia Nunn, Louisville and Elvira Nunn, East St. Louis. He was preceded in death by his mother; grandparents; a special aunt who helped raise him, Rosie Bell; and three children, Susie, LaVern and Maxie Jr.
