| Sadie L. Johnson, 96, of Rock Island, died Saturday, August 9, 2009 at Trinity Pathway Hospice, Bettendorf. Services for Mrs. Johnson will be 12:30 pm, Tuesday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home,
3030-7th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation will be Tuesday from 11 am, until the time of the service at the
funeral home. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to Trinity
Pathway Hospice.
Sadie was born on July 19, 1913 in Aalter, Belgium the daughter of Cyril and Maria Huyvaert Vandewalle.
She married Urban Johnson on June 1, 1936 in Galesburg; he preceded his wife in death in January of 1968. Mrs. Johnson worked as an inserter at the Argus/Dispatch Newspapers for over 20 years, retiring in 1990. She enjoyed playing cards at the Hauberg Center, Rock Island, knitting and especially enjoyed her grandchildren.
Survivors include her daughters and sons in law, Mary Ellen and Jack Peeters, Davenport, Judy and Jerry Smith, Coal Valley; grandchildren, Jay, Susan, Greg, Terry, David and Katy; great grandchildren, Jamie, Allison, Haley and Ketra; a special cousin, Louise Stritesky, East Moline.
Sadie was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Urban; and three brothers. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.wheelanpressly.com
