| John William Johnson Sr., 69, of Rock Island, passed away Tuesday January 12, 2010 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island.
A memorial visitation will be held from 2:00pm to 4:30p.m., Saturday January 16, 2010 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society.
Mr. Johnson was born on February 19, 1940 in Bloomington, WI, the son of Carl McDowell Sr. and Verl L. Lafferty. He married Linda Chadwick on February 21, 1959 in Davenport. She preceded him in death.
John had been employed for over 40 years as an estimator for Bert M. Lafferty Co., until his retirement in 1999.
Mr. Johnson was a member of P.D.C.A. - Painting and Decorating Contractor’s Association and numerous Masonic Lodges. He was also a member of the 1956 Rock Island High School State Championship Wrestling Team.
Survivors include his sons and daughters in law, John W. and Lisa Johnson Jr., Beloit, WI., Jim W. and Jane Johnson, Charlotte, N.C.; mother, Verl McDowell, West Des Moines, IA; four grandchildren, Amber, Michael, Kyle, Daniel Johnson; two great grandchildren, Jayme and Emily Ranft; brother and sister in law, Charles “Chuck” L. and Celeste McDowell, West Des Moines, IA.
John was preceded in death by his wife, Linda; father, Carl McDowell Sr.; two brothers, Carl R. McDowell and Jimmy Johnson. | |
