| David E. Harris Jr., 78, of Matherville, IL, died peacefully in his sleep Saturday January 16, 2010 at his home.
Services will be 2:00p.m., Friday January 22, 2010 at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island. Visitation will be Friday from 12 Noon to service time at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family, to later be used for a memorial tree at Sunset Marina, Rock Island.
Mr. Harris was born on February 21, 1931 in Galesburg, IL, the son of David E. and Alice D. (Rice) Harris. He married Cathie Dredge (Miller) with whom he had five wonderful children. He later spent the rest of his days with his companion, Linda Statler.
David was a dedicated father and grandfather, who his family will love always. He was a great provider and a responsible father. Mr. Harris was a retired Union carpenter from local 166, where he also served as Union Steward and Secretary. David devoted his life to his family, his work and especially his grandchildren.
David is survived by his companion, Linda; children, Michele (Kenneth) Hudson, Davenport, Michael Harris, Davenport, Melinda Harris (Damon Robinson), Rock Island, Matthew (Polly) Harris, Omaha, NE., Melissa Harris, Rock Island; brothers, Robert Harris, Baltimore, MD, James (Bonnie) Harris and John Harris all of Galesburg; 15 grandchildren, Mason and Morgan Harris, Tiffany and Kristopher Hudson, Monee Turner, Gabriellia Boyd, Maesa Harris, George Henderson IV, Mackenzie Hudson, Danee Robinson, Jamison Harris, Demi Robinson, Kristyn Cudmore, Cassandra and Tyler Rivera; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and two sisters.
