Funeral Service: 10:30 a.m. Monday June 28, 2010 at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, 2312 18th Ave., Rock Island, Ill.
Interment: Monday June 28, 2010 at National Cemetery, Rock Island, Ill.

Donald Eugene Johnson, 82, of Rock Island, died Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 1:30 PM at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline. Visitation will be Sunday, June 27 from 2-5 PM at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 7th Avenue and 30th Street, Rock Island, IL. Funeral services will be Monday, June 28th at 10:30 AM at Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Rock Island. Burial will be in the National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. A luncheon at the church will follow the services and burial. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Honor Flight of the Quad Cities or Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Rock Island, IL. Don was born, September 21, 1927 in Chicago, the son of Vernon T. and Olga Klomhaus Johnson. He married his sweetheart, Marilyn Jones in 1951 in Moline, IL. Don graduated from Moline High School in 1945 and attended Augustana College. He was a World War II Navy veteran who was stationed in Hawaii for three years. He participated in the first Honor Flight of the Quad Cities and was able to visit the World War II memorial. Don was employed as a plumber and pipefitter for over 36 years through the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local #25. Don also taught plumber apprentice school for several years, retiring in 1986. He was a 53 year member of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church. Don was an avid golfer, bowler, and a White Sox fan. He loved spending time with his family and was especially proud of his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed dining out and his many trips to Hawaii. Don was looking forward to his 65th Moline High School class reunion, as well as a reunion with his old Navy buddies in September. Don is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Marilyn; his son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Amanda Johnson, Moline; his daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Bruce Johnson, Marshalltown, Iowa; his grandchildren, Amber Johnson, Atlanta, Ga., Derek Johnson and Austen Johnson, both of Moline, Rachel Johnson and Meredith Johnson, both of Marshalltown and Zachary Johnson, Ames, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, LaVerne Petersen. A special thank you is extended to his friend and Pastor “JD” Georlett and the caring Heartland Health Care Center staff.
