| Geraldine E. Aversing, 82, of Rock Island, died Tuesday July 13, 2010, at Trinity, Rock Island.
Services are 1:00 p.m. Friday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 4:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Rock Island Association of Retired Firefighters, Alleman High School, or to Jordan School.
Geraldine was born March 7, 1928, in Rock Island, a daughter of Arthur DePaepe and Mamie Brennan DePaepe. She married Leo C. “Whitey” Aversing on December 30, 1947, in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on January 15, 1981.
She was a homemaker and also worked at Royal Neighbors of America, Rock Island. She loved being with her children, grandchildren, friends from Coventry, and retired firefighter friends. She will be greatly missed by all.
Geraldine was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rock Island, and the Altar & Rosary Society of the church. In earlier years, she enjoyed singing in the choir at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island.
She was a member and past-president of the Rock Island Firefighters Auxiliary, member of Belle Camp #102 of Royal Neighbors, AARP and Plus 60.
She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and was an avid sports fan.
Surviving are her children (and spouses), Judith (Bruce) Carlson, Cambridge, IL, Jayne Aversing, Rock Island, Janis (Richard) Housley, Addison, IL, Jeffrey Aversing (fiancée, Chris King), Milan, Jennifer Aversing, Rock Island, and Janine Aversing (Eudell), Rock Island; daughter-in-law, Susan Aversing, Coralville, IA; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Nancy (Richard) Ballinger, Rock Island; Beverly Hamlin, Florida; Linda (Lawrence) Diedrich, South Carolina; brother, Dale DePaepe, Rock Island; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
Her parents, husband, son Gary, infant son Joseph, sisters, Shirley Boswell and Jacqueline Seibert, and brothers, Robert, Donald, and Thomas DePaepe, preceded her in death.
