Eugene John "Gene" Glowacki, 84, of Rock Island, passed away peacefully in his sleep at the Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island on Saturday July 24th, 2010. Services for Mr. Glowacki will be 10 am Wednesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4-7 pm at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030-7th Avenue, Rock Island, where a Christian wake service will be conducted at 4 pm. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island, where military rites will be held. Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church or to ARC of Rock Island County.
Gene was born on December 25, 1925 in La Salle, Illinois; the son of Vincent Glowacki and Marie Schier Glowacki. He graduated from St. Ambrose Academy in 1944. Gene proudly served in the US Navy from 1944 to 1946 aboard the USS Bon Homme Richard. He was promoted to musician third class in October 1945. He enjoyed going to the movies, traveling locally, and dancing. He was united in marriage to Rosemary Posateri on June 18, 1949 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Rock Island. He was employed as a salesman for the H.J. Heinz Company for 23 years and the T.J. Lipton Company for 15 years. He was a lifetime professional drummer and performed locally for many years. He was an usher at St Pius X Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife, Rosemary; sons, Thomas Glowacki, Moline, Michael (Sheryl) Glowacki, Santa Monica, California; a daughter, Theresa (Lee) Smith, Joplin, Missouri; two grandchildren, Joshua and Danielle; sister, Dolores, Moline; brothers, Vincent, Bettendorf, Richard, Davenport, William, Davenport, and Donald, Davenport.
