Richard D. Smith, 72, of Taylor Ridge, IL, died Sunday July 25, 2010, at Trinity, Rock Island.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Burial with military honors will be at Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, where a Masonic service will be conducted at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trio Lodge 57 A.F. & A.M. or to Grace Bible Fellowship, Moline.
Richard was born March 7, 1938, in Rock Island, the son of William L. Smith and Teresa M. Boyer Smith. He married Dorothea M. Jones on December 17, 1963, in Folkson, GA.
Richard was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was employed for 38 years at the Rock Island Arsenal, retiring in 1993.
He was a member and past master of Trio Lodge 57 A.F. & A.M., Rock Island. In earlier years he was a member of the former Rock Island Lodge 658 A.F. & A.M. He was also a member of the Mohassan Grotto, Davenport, Milan American Legion Post 569, and Grace Bible Fellowship, Moline.
He enjoyed playing the guitar and performing with the Banjoliers.
Surviving are his wife, Dorothea, of Taylor Ridge; children, William D. Smith, Taylor Ridge, and Deborah M. Bogs, and her husband Jeffrey, Carbon Cliff, IL; and grandson, Nicholas S. Bogs, Carbon Cliff.
Richard is preceded in death by his parents.
