| Johanne “Anni” Varadi, 82, of Rapids City, died Saturday Sept. 4, 2010 at Heartland Health Care Center, Moline.
Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Church of Peace United Church of Christ, Rock Island. Burial is at 2:30 p.m. Thursday at St. John’s Cemetery, Rapids City. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Memorials may be made to the Church of Peace or to the American Cancer Society.
Johanne Stemme was born on Apr. 12, 1928 in Osterode, Germany, a daughter of Rudolf and Helene Stemme Sr. She married Antal Varadi Sr. on June 24, 1950 in Germany. He died on Oct. 2, 2007.
Anni had worked as a housekeeper for several Quad City families.
She was a member of the Church of Peace United Church of Christ, Rock Island, and the German Club, Davenport. Anni was a wonderful cook and baker and enjoyed doing craft work, needlepoint, crocheting and knitting. She also enjoyed reading and going to the “Boat”.
Survivors include her children, Jeno (Kathie) Varadi, Princeton, Ill., Helen (Stephen Sr.) Danay, Milan, Antal Varadi Jr. (Dawn Tallon), Rock Island, and Kathleen (Thomas) Johnson, Petersburg, Alaska; 27 grandchildren, step-grandchildren and great grandchildren; and sisters, Irmchen Lullemann and Helga Baumert, both of Osterode. She was preceded in death by two great grandchildren and three brothers.
