Dr. Michael P. Nolan, a resident of Rock Island, Illinois, died at his home on September 25, 2010. Michael was born on October 18, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois. He was the husband of Dr. Ann E. Ericson and son of Robert E. and Therese E. Nolan. Michael was preceded in death by his father. Michael had degrees in English from Augustana College, University of Chicago and University of Iowa. For most of his career he was a teacher or administrator at Augustana College. Michael was passionate about books and flying. With his keen wit and deep intelligence, he was a wonderful and devoted husband, son, brother, uncle and friend to many. He leaves behind his wife Ann of Rock Island and mother Therese of Burbank, Illinois; his sisters Norine Fuson (Mickey) of Bloomington, Illinois; Paula Backus of Joliet, Illinois; Colleen Besic (Darren) of Batavia, Illinois; and Mary Beth Nolan of Maywood, Illinois. His family also includes father-in-law and mother-in-law Donald and Pauline Ericson and sister-in-law Paula Egelson of Charleston, South Carolina; nephews and nieces Jeremy Fuson (Misti), Lauren Backus, Rachel Besic, Conner Besic, Daniel Egelson and Benjamin Egelson. A public memorial service for Michael will be held 4:00 p.m. Friday, October 1, 2010 at Ascension Chapel, Founders Hall, Augustana College. The funeral service is private. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island is assisting the family. Michael started Augustana’s chapter of the Adopt-A-School program with Longfellow Elementary School located near the Augustana campus and was an active volunteer. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions in Michael’s memory to the Longfellow Adopt-A-School program, in care of the Augustana College Development Office.
