George R. Hudson, 90, of Rock Island, passed away Friday, November 5, 2010 at the Silver Cross Nursing Center / Sheltered Care, Rock Island following an extended illness.
Funeral services are 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Burial is at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 3 to 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Rock Island.
George was born on October 12, 1920 in Gothenburg, Neb., a son of Herchil and Yvonne Hudson. He married Phyllis M. Percy on October 29, 1949 at Central Presbyterian Church, Rock Island.
He worked at the Rock Island Arsenal prior to WW II and following the war, at the Bear Manufacturing Co., Rock Island. He retired from John Deere Harvester, East Moline.
George enlisted in the U.S. Army and was a WW II veteran, serving as a sergeant and stationed in Recife, Brazil. He was a member of Good Shepherd Presbyterian Church, Rock Island. George enjoyed playing golf and was a former member of Mill Creek Country Club, Milan.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis; sister-in-law, Ilene Poitz, Houston, Tx.; nieces, Diane Poitz Edwards, Houston and Karen (Brian) Ott, Moline; and a great niece, Kristin Edwards, Houston. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jack; and brother-in-law, Herbert Poitz.
