Gary R. Carlson, 66, of Rock Island, died Monday November 8, 2010 at his home.
A memorial service is planned for 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Preemption United Methodist Church, Preemption, IL, where visitation will be one hour prior to services. Inurnment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sherrard High School Athletics or Fine Arts programs.
Gary was born November 15, 1943 in Andalusia, IL, a son of Nels Fredrick Carlson and Vera Nellie Pearson Carlson.
He married Amy Jo Gregg Pollock on September 4, 2000 in Viola, IL. He had been previously married to Judy McRae and later to Brenda Wheeler.
Gary was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. He was a teamster and professional driver for thirty-two years. He retired from Holland Trucking in 2005.
He was a past member of the Rock Island Moose Lodge No. 190. He enjoyed following his son’s sports and school activities. He enjoyed his teenage years growing up in Sherrard, and was an avid baseball and Cub’s fan. He was a professional English darts player and enjoyed fishing.
Survivors include his wife, Amy Jo Carlson, of Rock Island; son, Kyle Nels Carlson, Moline; stepchildren, Brent McRae, Milan, Brian McRae, New York, Brandi Cabrieles, Huntington Beach, CA, Jacob Thompson, Las Vegas, NV, Heidi Rettig, Rock Island, Amber Katz, Peoria, and Kevin Pollock, Moline; granddaughter, Presley Carlson; twelve step grandchildren; brothers and sisters (and spouses), Waneta Orvis-Mosier, Davenport, IA, Dean (Kathy) Hall, Moline, Harold (Mary Lou) Hall, Davenport, Mary (Rick) Toom, Bettendorf, IA, and Donna (Danny) Gresch, Sherrard, IL; and numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
