| Margaret Jane “Peg” Urie, 92, of Rock Island, Ill., passed away Tuesday November 23, 2010, at Select Specialty Hospital, Davenport, Ia.
A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, where visitation will be two hours prior to services. Inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to Jordan School or to a favorite charity. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, is assisting with arrangements.
Peg was born in Rock Island on April 25, 1918, a daughter of Milton and Ursula Goode Zimmer. She graduated from Rock Island High School. She married Howard L. “Hod” Urie on July 18, 1938. He preceded her in death on April 27, 1985.
Peg’s happiest moments were spent with her family and friends. She was an avid bridge player, golfer, and voracious reader, even until the time of her passing. After raising her children, Lynne Stitz, of Manhattan, Kansas, Steven Urie, of Truckee, California, Gail Nimrick, of East Moline, and Michael Urie, of Reno, Nevada, Peg turned her love of books into a profession. She served as a librarian at the Rock Island Library until her retirement in 1996.
Peg is survived by her children; her siblings, Dorothy Stoker, Jeanne Price, and John Zimmer; her grandchildren, Jennifer Forman, Meg Raymore, Greg Nimrick, Doug Nimrick, Andrea Hakes, Elizabeth Urie, Kathryn Urie; and 8 great-grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sister, Pauline Forgy.
