Mary Isabelle “Biz” McManus, 93, of Bettendorf, formerly of Moline, died Sunday December 12, 2010, at The Fountains Senior Living Center, Bettendorf. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Church, Moline, IL. Interment will be at a later date in Palm Beach, FL. No visitation is planned prior to services. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, is assisting with arrangements. Memorials may be made to the Kansas City Art Institute, 4415 Warwick Blvd., Kansas City, MO 64111-1820. Mary Isabelle was born May 21, 1917 in Bay City, MI, a daughter of Thane A. Kuhlman and Marie Anderson Kuhlman. Biz was a graduate of Bradford College in Haverhill, MA, and the Art Center, School of Design, Pasadena, CA. She married Frank W. Lee, Jr. on February 1, 1941, in Bay City, MI. He preceded her in death on January 30, 1994. She later married Dr. Thomas McManus on May 22, 2000, in Palm Beach, FL. He preceded her in death in July of 2003. Biz was a gifted artist and life-long supporter of the fine arts. She served on both the Fireside and Vanderslice committees of the Kansas City Art Institute for over 20 years and is the first Honorary Chairman of the Vanderslice committee. She also was a member of D.A.R., Colonial Dames of America, and Christ Church, Moline. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Frank W. “Bill” and Margaret W. “Peggy” Lee, of Moline; grandchildren, Joshua N. Lee, Moline, and Jasmine A. Lee, Canby, IN; six great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Alice Kuhlman, Palm Beach, FL; two nephews; one niece; and other relatives. Biz is preceded in death by her parents, husbands, her brother, Thane J. Kuhlman, and her sister, Celia K. "June" Shea. Online condolences may be left for the family at wheelanpressly.com
