Lester F. Kreider, 91, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at the Silver Cross Nursing Center, Rock Island.
Funeral services are 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Salem Lutheran Church, Moline. Private burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 3 to 6 p.m. Friday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island. Additional visitation is 10 a.m. until service time Saturday at the church. Memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church, Moline, or to the Lymphoma Research Foundation.
Lester was born on January 3, 1919 in Sterling, Ill., a son of Abram and Cora Landis Kreider. He married Ethel M. Hoover on May 21, 1942 in Sterling. She died February 28, 2004.
Les was a district representative for Lutheran Brotherhood for over 46 years. He retired in 1987. While with Lutheran Brotherhood, he earned the status as a Chartered Life Underwriter (C.L.U.). Les’s 46 year career with the same company is an unusual occurrence in today’s world.
He was a WW II U.S. Army Air Force veteran and served as a Major in the finance corps. Les was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Moline and a former longtime member of First Lutheran Church, Rock Island. He was a member of the Rock Island Golden K Kiwanis Club, where he served as treasurer. He was a past president of the former Quad City Life Underwriters Association. Les enjoyed playing cards and traveling.
Survivors include his daughters and son-in-law, Carolyn Fries, Aurora, Ill., and Judy and Jeff Ronk, Leavenworth, Kan.; son and daughter-in-law, Fred and Ann Kreider, Minneapolis; six grandchildren and a great granddaughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ethel; son, Keith; son-in-law, Bill Fries; two brothers; and three sisters.
