The former Irene M. Noppe, daughter of Julius and Augusta Noppe, was born on June 17, 1924, in Jesup, Iowa. She moved to the Quad-City area as a small child, where she later graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Moline. On October 9, 1948, she married Henry Martin in Rock Island.

Mrs. Martin was employed at different times at the Rock Island Arsenal, J. I. Case Company in Rock Island, Illinois State Employment Service in Moline, and the Dept. of Psychiatric Services at Fort Carson, Colorado. Mostly, though, she was a devoted wife and mother. She was at one time active as a Boy Scout leader, was a long time Rock Island County Election Judge, and held office in the United Methodist Women. She had been a long-time member of First United Methodist Church, Rock Island before moving to Wisconsin. She also enjoyed cooking, needlework, crafts, reading, and genealogy. But most of all, she loved her family, all of whom will miss her greatly.

Survivors include her sons and spouse, Douglas (Sue) Martin, Madison, WI., Gregg Martin, Madison WI.: grandchildren, William, Catherine, and John Martin all of Madison; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; her brothers and spouses, Adolph (Anna) Noppe, Rene (Goldie) Noppe, and her sister and spouse, Mary (Elmer) Beckhart.

Doug,Greg and family: Irene was a special lady and I will be forever blessed to have met and befriended her. I lost touch after she and Greg moved........sorry for that. But I am so happy she is with God and Henry. God Bless-We loved them both Brenda and Tom Neer

Dear Gregg and Doug-- Our condolences to you and the rest of your family on the death of your Mom. She was a good neighbor for over 20 years! We especially enjoyed her wry sense of humor: one favorite memory is upon returning from church one Sunday, she saw Mike mowing the lawn and said "...and on the 7th day He rested!" To which Mike responded "Well, you know scripture also says there is no rest for the wicked!" Irene simply smiled, shook her head and walked into her house! She will be missed, and we are glad she is at peace. We are sorry we did not return to the Quad Cities in time to attend the visitation---our son Rob, who lives in Joliet just had a brain tumor removed. He is out of the hospital and doing well now, but cannot mow his lawn, etc. yet. Love and blessings to you; you are in our thoughts and prayers. Sincerely, Mike and Nancy Flaherty

Members of Irene Martin's family:

We send our consolations to you. We respected and loved Irene and Henry while we served together at Colorado Springs--and later at our military reunions. We know you will grieve, but you will have strenth and support from our good God.

Love to you in your loss.
