| Clara A. Martens, 96, a resident of the Kahl Home for the Aged and Infirm, Davenport, formerly of Rock Island, died at the Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial is at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, where a rosary will be recited at 3:45 p.m. Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church or to the Kahl Home. Clara De Cleene was born on October 26, 1913 in Rock Island, a daughter of August and Emmerance Eete De Cleene. She married Charles M. Martens on July 17, 1935 in Rock Island. He died December 21, 1986. Clara was a homemaker who was well-known for her excellent cooking and especially baking. In early years, she worked at the former Oil Cloth Factory, Peerless Dairy and Servus Rubber Co. She was a charter member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society, laundered linens for use on the Altar and was a Eucharist Minister. Clara was also a member of the Cordial Club. Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Jud Awkerman, Davenport; grandson, David McCaffrey and his fiancée, Ehren Hill, Chicago; two step-granddaughters; five step-great grandchildren; and her sister, Helen Sabbe, Davenport. She was preceded in death by her husband; brother; and three sisters. | |

I knew Clara ever since my days as an assistant at St PiusX and received many of her delicious baking goods...she was so good and kind to everyone...a real treasure....my the Lord rest her in peace. Msgr Jim Ramer

Geachte , Ik weet dat mijn 2 tantes De Cleene Clara en Helen overleden zijn . Daarom ben ik zo vrij om U wat uitleg te geven .Martens Judy ( mijn nicht ) is de dochter van Clara Martens - de Cleene .Clara en haar zuster Helen zijn twee half zussen van wijlen mijn moeder de Cleene Martha .Haar vader De Cleene August heeft mijn moeder en grootmoeder verlaten om met een andere vrouw ( Eete Emerance ) en haar 4 kinderen naar Amerika te immigreren . In Amerika heeft hij die 4 kinderen op zijn naam genomen en samen hebben ze nog twee dochters gehad nl. Clara en Helen . Mijn grootvader heeft 7 stenen huizen gebouwd , voor elk kind een huis inclusief ook voor mijn moeder , doch mijn grootvader is in 1959 overleden en Eete Emerance erfde alles .Clara heeft toen aan mijn moeder geschreven dat zij nergens recht had op een erfenis daar ZE NOOIT VOOR HAAR VADER GEWERKT HAD !!!HOE LAAG KAN MEN ZIJN .Ik wil juist waar normaal mijn moeder recht op had .Ook zou ik graag in contact komen met Judy haar eerste man Mc Caffrey Joe en haar zoon Mc Caffrey David . Ik vind dat men nu eindelijk de waarheid mogen weten . sorry als ik U daar mee lastig val doch ik heb geen andere uitweg om het recht van mijn moeder te verdedigen .U kunt mij steeds contacteren op mijn mail adres .
