William “Bill” Lampkin, 84, of Moline, died Tuesday, August 31, 2010 at Trinity Medical Center,

Rock Island. Services for Mr. Lampkin will be 12 Noon Tuesday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030-7th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation will be Tuesday from 10 am until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Arsenal Island where military rites will be conducted. Memorials may be made to the family.

William was born on June 22, 1926 in Louisville, Mississippi, the son of Squire Lampkin Sr. and

Alma Lynch Lampkin. He married Wardean Smith on October 25, 1947 in Louisville, MS. Mr. Lampkin worked in the maintenance department at the Rock Island Arsenal for 34 years retiring in August of 1985. He had also worked as a chef at the LeClaire Hotel, Moline for 20 years. Bill was a member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church, Louisville, MS. He enjoyed gardening, cooking and baseball. Bill was a World War II Army veteran.

Survivors include his children and spouses, Helen and Ronnie Forrest, Rock Island, Carl Sr. and

Ora Lampkin, Rock Island, Janice Lampkin, Racine, WI, Nadine and Kimber Gay, Moline,

Glen Lampkin, Moline; 12 grandchildren; 34 great grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren;

brothers, sisters and spouses; Grace Jackson, Rock Island, O. D. and Movita Lampkin, Junction City, KS, O. T. Lampkin, Germantown, TN, Juanita Hughes, Silvis, Charlene Allen, Silvis, Cleo and Gloria Lampkin, Broadview, IL; a host of nieces, nephews and cousins; a sister in law, Roxanne Lampkin, Rock Island; special friend, Oreatha Edwards, Louisville, MS.

Mr. Lampkin was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Walter Lampkin, Paul Lampkin, and Squire Lampkin Jr.; a sister, Betty Walker. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.wheelanpressly.com

To: the strongest wise man I knew as Mr.Lampkin As a little girl I had meet a caring fun loving man that went by the name bill Lampkin however I was so young that Mr.Lampkin reminded me of Mr. Wilson that play in the movie Dennis the menace so I deiced to call him Mr. Wilson and if you ask y I called him that is because Mr. Wilson use to wear overalls! !and soon I had everybody in the neighborhood calling him Mr.Willson even the older people! .I will remember Mr. Wilson in so many different ways as long as I’m living I can remember when he use to bring grandmother and I watermelon from his garden it was so good when I was little I use to eat so much watermelon he said I was going to turn in to one. I will miss him dearly and I will remember him as a kind man! I Wish I was there to say my goodbye however we will meet again one day! Love you!
