Visitation will be 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, with services following at 1:00 p.m. Inurnment will be at National Cemtery, Arsenal Island, at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Dorothy was born October 8, 1933, in Rock Island, a daughter of Frank A. Ghys and Ruth Huntley Ghys. She married Marvin “George” Mandel on July 7, 1962, in Rock Island. He preceded her in death on May 6, 2006.

Dorothy worked at the former Swan and Bahnsen Drug Store, Rock Island, for many years. She then worked for the Rock Island School District until her retirement.

In earlier years she was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rock Island. She enjoyed being with her family especially her grandchildren, for whom she loved to bake.

Survivors include her sons and daughters-in-law, Marvin and Michelle Mandel Jr., and Mike and Kathi Mandel, all of Rock Island; grandchildren, Cameron, Adam, Tristan, and Kaitlyn, all of Rock Island; sisters, Janet Ledbetter, Milan, Roberta (Hugh) Hall, Geneseo; brothers, Frank (Delores) Ghys, Coal Valley, Dan (Helen) Ghys, Davenport; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Dorothy is preceded in death by her parents, husband, and half-sister, Pauline Lathrop.
