Agnes was born December 13, 1918 in Kiel, Wis., the daughter of Frank and Emily Klauck Grott. She married Harry J. (Red) Johannes May 24, 1945 in Cleveland, Wis. He died March 24, 2007.
She was a homemaker in the early years of her marriage; raising 5 children. Then in 1962, she and her husband Harry started Johannes Bus Service, Rock Island. They parked the first school buses in the back yard and all five children had to help clean, paint and maintain the buses. The bus service originally serviced the Catholic schools and eventually expanded into servicing the public schools in Rock Island, Moline, Coal Valley and Milan areas. Eventually expanding the bus business into the Aledo area, and adding mini-coach charter buses to the fleet. Johannes Bus Service continues with the second and third generation families.
Agnes’ happiest moments were spent with her family which numbers over 50. As well as spending many happy years traveling with Harry and spending time at the family lake home in Wisconsin. Over the years, Agnes and her daughter Rose made quilts for every child, grandchild and great grandchild. She loved their home in Milan, but was also very fond of the “golden year” she spent living at Park Vista Senior Living in East Moline.
She was a member of St. Patrick Parish in Andalusia, formerly St. Joseph, Rock Island (while raising the family) and formerly a member of St. Wendel Parish in Cleveland, Wis.
The family would like to thank all the caregivers and medical personnel that assisted Agnes in her home, at Park Vista and at the hospitals during the last few years of her life.
She is survived by her five children and families; Steven and Lana Johannes, Rock Island, Mary Lou and Joe DeMarlie, Reynolds, Rose and Gilbert Matlick, Edgington, Charles and Deanna Johannes, East Moline, and Sally and David Fisher, Milan; 17 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and eight step great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Harry; three brothers; a son-in-law; and a grandson.

My deepest sympanthy for your loss of Mom, I was always proud to tell people that mentioned your bus service that I was one of the first driver's that worked for the Co. along with Ed Dow. We did park in the back yard then and remember having to wait for mom to get lunches ready for the kids so they could get on the bus before I could leave. Good memories for me. I am sure she will be watching over all the family as you all travel thru life and she has always been there for you all for all her long life.
