Seama H. Carter, 91, of Rock Island, died Monday, November 15, 2010 at St. Anthony’s Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Rock Island. Services for Mrs. Carter will be 10 am Saturday at Second Baptist Church, Rock Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be in Chippiannock Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the family or to a favorite charity. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 – 7th Avenue, Rock Island is assisting the family.

Seama was born June 1, 1919 in McCool, Mississippi, the daughter of George Hughes and Katie Potts Hughes. She married Archie Carter in Louisville, MS. He preceded his wife in death. Mrs. Carter was a school teacher and taught school for 37 years before retiring. Seama was a member of Second Baptist Church, Rock Island. She enjoyed cooking, reading and gardening.

Survivors include her step sons, Jimmie and Johnnie Carter, Harrisburg, PA; step daughter, Cassie, Mt. Vernon, IL; sister, Roberta Jordan, Rock Island and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Carter was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Archie; daughter, Verna Hospkin; step daughters, Jessie, Lilly, Myaredis; brothers and sisters, Ernestine McReynolds, Annie Safflod, Verna Sims, George Hughes Jr., Lubertha Wickliffe.
