| Orval E. Bestian, 85, a lifelong resident of Taylor Ridge, died Saturday, November 20, 2010 at Trinity Rock Island. Funeral services are 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Milan. Burial is at Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Taylor Ridge, where military honors will be presented by Reynolds American Legion Post 1166. Visitation is 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 201 E. 4th Ave., Milan. Memorials may be made to St. Matthew Lutheran Church or to the Alzheimer’s Association. Orval was born on November 27, 1924 in Taylor Ridge, a son of Freeman and Frieda Raecke Bestian. He married Mary Ann Fisher on November 30, 1951 in Edgington. He spent his life farming in the Taylor Ridge area. Orval loved to work and the hard work associated with farming was as much a hobby, as a job. He had a passion for caring for God’s creation. Orval was a WW II U.S. Army veteran and served in Japan. He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Milan and a former member of Zion Lutheran Church, Taylor Ridge, where he served on many boards and committees. He was also a member of the Reynolds American Legion Post 1166. Orval had served as a volunteer at the former Franciscan Hospital, Rock Island. He loved his little dog, Tippy. Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann; children (and spouses), Cheryl (Richard) Kness, Lakewood, Colo., Sandy (Bill) Larrison, Taylor Ridge, Chuck (Colleen) Bestian, Taylor Ridge, Rev. Brian (Kim) Bestian, Fort Collins, Colo., and Allen Bestian, Taylor Ridge; grandchildren, Kristin (Tim) Burke, Lori (Mike) Miller, Ryan Larrison (Janene Finley), Christopher (Noreen) Bestian, Carrie Ann Bestian, Keri Lynn Bestian, Erik Bestian, and Isaak Bestian; four great grandsons; sisters, Fern (Tommy) Tucker, Milan and Shirley (Frank) Atkins, Louisville, Ky. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert Bestian; and sister, Kathleen Schultz. | |
