Robert J. Roach, 52, of Rock Island, passed away Sunday December 12, 2010 at Trinity Rock Island.

Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00p.m., Thursday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island, with a Christian Wake Service at 4:00p.m.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 10:00a.m., at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral home, Rock Island. Inurnment will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be left to the family.

Robert was born on April 11, 1958 in Rock Island the son of Bernard and Clara (DePoorter) Roach. He was a graduate of Sterling Newman High School.

Mr. Roach had been employed by Tyson Foods for over 20 years in the maintenance department.

Robert was a member of the former St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rock Island. He loved spending time with his grandson, Drake. Mr. Roach was a avid St. Louis Cardinals and Rams fan, he also enjoyed watching Nascar and fishing. He was also known to root for any team playing the Cubs.

Survivors include his sons, Lance Corpral Tim Roach, USMC, Colona, Michael Roach and his girlfriend, Ashley Rowland, both of Colona; grandson, Drake Roach; grand dog, Amex; Tim and Michaels mother and step father, Jody and William Brown, Rock Island; special friend of the family, Shirley Hora; siblings and spouses, Pat and Patti Roach, Kankakee, Martha Finney, Rock Island, Sara Jane Milton, Bloomington, IL, Mary and Bob Evans, Rock Island, Bernie and Donna Roach, Rock Island, John Roach, Rock Island, Lori and Danny Schmatch, Osco, IL and Rita Titman, Rock Island; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Timothy Roach and sister, Colleen White.

The first thought I had when I saw the Cards traded Brendon Ryan was "I wonder what Bob is going to think of that." And true to form, even in his obit he got a last dig in at the Cubs. I will miss him.

I have worked with Bob for about 5 years now and one of my funniest memories is Bob needing a light and I told him to hold on I had a new lighter that I did not need, he came over to my locker and I handed him a brand new cubs lighter he looked at it and handed it back, Bob was true to his word, and he will be missed!!

He frequently wore his St. Louis Cardinal shirts and jerseys at the 4PM Mass. Being the Cub fan that I am, he would give a smile and shake his head when I teased him about the Cubs/Cardinals rivalry. God bless to everyone, and may he be enjoying his eternal rest with the Lord....Love....Fr. Greg
