Leota L. “Lee” Aronson, 89, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, December 14, 2010 at Trinity Medical Center, Rock Island. Services for Mrs. Aronson will be 11 am Monday at the Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030-7th Avenue, Rock Island. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Healy Cemetery, Moscow, Iowa. Memorials may be made to the St. John’s United Methodist Church Foundation, Davenport.

Leota was born December 31, 1920 in West Liberty, Iowa the daughter of Albert Maurer and Mabel Healy Maurer. She married Robert A. Aronson on October 2, 1949 at St. John’s United Methodist Church, Davenport. He preceded his wife in death on December 15, 2008. She graduated from West Liberty High School in 1938.

She was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church, The United Methodist Woman, D. A. R, The Loyalty Circle of Kings Daughters, Friendship Manor Service League, and ROMO. She previously was a member of Y Wives, the Junior Woman’s Club, and the Rock Island Women’s Club. In earlier years she worked for International Harvester Company. Leota received the Beautification Award from the City of Rock Island in July 1983 for her beautiful flower garden. Leota and her husband, Bob were among the founding members of Mill Creek Country Club.

Leota volunteered at Friendship Manor gift shop and St. John’s Methodist Church office. She enjoyed many bridge clubs, playing golf, traveling the world and her flower garden.

She is survived by her son, Lyle Aronson, Rock Island and a sister, Helen Maurer Simmons, Rock Island. Leota was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Bob.
