Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the Quad City Symphony, Alleman High School or to a favorite charity. A long time resident of the Quad Cities and Friendship Manor, she was the widow of Dr. Benjamin M. Freiband of Milan and mother of Jane DeMay, Minneapolis; Jana Freiband, Minneapolis; Jude Aiello, Denver; John Freiband, Rock Island, Jim Freiband, New York. She leaves six loving grandchildren Mindy, Brad, Andrew, Dominic, Gina and Monica and a very loving great granddaughter, Beatrix. Agnes was born in Kansas City Kansas and attended Bishop Ward High School there; she graduated from St Marys College of Leavenworth Kansas with a BS. She also attended Medical Records School at St Joseph's Hospital in Chicago where she met Benjamin. They were married in 1942 and Dr Freiband served with distinction as a Capt in the US Medical Corps in the South Pacific. At the end of the war, the family settled in Keithsburg IL and later moved to Milan where Dr Freiband maintained a general practice and surgeon until his death in 1983. In addition to raising her five children, Agnes was active in parish activities at St Ambrose Church leading the childrens choir. She was dearly remembered for her love of music, singing often in Handel Oratorios locally and womens barbershop (in US and Canadian competitions) for almost 30 years. Some of her favorite roles were as Mary Poppins and Peter Pan in local musicals in Moline. She belonged to Harmony Incorporated chorus called the "Great River Echoes" under the direction of Dean Stephenson. Mrs. Freiband also served on the Board of the Quad City Symphony, Catholic Social Service; Alleman High School and Franciscan Hospital. She was a former two term president of the Villa Guild, St Anthony's auxiliary, and president and founding member of the Milan Womens Club. She also held offices in the Medical Auxiliary and enlisted their membership in delivering for the "Meals on Wheels" program which she did faithfully for 29 years. She received the Master Auxiliary Award for her efforts on behalf of medical membership. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.wheelanpressly.com | |

To Agnes's family please accept all our sympathy from all the volunteers at Animal Aid. I was a patient of Dr. Freiband's years ago in Milan in the big white house. I was from the Benner family.
I always remembered how nice they were.

Dear Jane & Family:
I'm so sorry to hear about your mother. My sister (Gloria) & myself used to bowl with you at Town & Country, back in the '60's. You were a great bowler! I believe all of us went to State tournaments together.
Once again, my deepest sympathy. There were 5 kids in our family also; and, our mother, died on Christmas Eve in 1966, when I was still in high school; so, I know the added sorrow especially felt when losing one's mother at Christmas.

John and family...
I am very sorry about the passing of your mom. I remember that she always had a new story to tell and I will always remember her warm smile. She certainly had touched a lot of lives in her time here on this earth. The world we live in is just a touch less warm without Agnes Freiband in it, but we all do have great memories of her to brighten up our days. Like you, I will miss her and the best potato salad ever created! I'll bet that she has already been put to work, making it for all of her old and new friends in her new home. After all, it is heavenly!
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Sincerely, Dan Diederich

Dear Jude and family,
I would like to send my condolences for you and your family. When I was visiting you in Denver a few weeks ago you were having a conversation with your mom, and I could tell how much you love her and it seems she was very blessed to have much love and much health throughout her life. I hope all that needs to be done goes smoothly and peacefully for you and your family and the love that she gave you all is now the love that supports you and your support for each other as you take care of the details and begin to adjust to her passing.
Much love and support for you now!
Love, Lori

Jude and family, Losing such a formidable matriarch leaves a huge void for any family. As I read about your mother and thought of your advocacy in Denver's Old House Society, I have no doubt she is smiling quite broadly upon you and your family. Please accept my condolences on your loss.
Sincerely,
Becky Orr, Denver
