Interment: At a later date , at National Cemetery, Rock Island

Norman (Leon) True, 80 of Milan passed away December 30, 2010 at Trinity, Rock Island, surrounded by his family.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30a.m., Wednesday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Milan. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00-7:00pm at the funeral home. Inurnment will be at a later date in the National Cemetery, Rock Island. Memorials may be made to the family which will be used for the planting of a tree at church or to the Kidney Foundation.

Leon was born May 13, 1930 in Stahl, Missouri, the 6th child of Olen & Leta (Hedrick) True. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Adams on August 12, 1951 in Galesburg. Leon was an assembler at Deere Harvester Works for 39 ˝ years, retiring in 1987. He was a Korean War Army Veteran serving from 1951-1953 in the 213th Field Artillery Battalion.

Leon was a loyal St. Louis Cardinal fan, loved country music, playing his guitar, wintering in Texas, working on cars, remodeling homes and playing softball, but nothing was ever more important than his family. One of his greatest joys was watching his grandkids activities, especially sports.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, 5 children: Sherrie (Jeff) Mayer, Flower Mound, TX; Debbie (Jon) Gradert, Sherrard; Tammy Blade (Duane Marshall) Orion; Randy (Sandy) True, Osco and Tim (Gail) True, Coal Valley, 12 grandchildren: Jay, Elizabeth (Taku); Judson (Jen); Amanda (Pat); Emily (Sam); Charlie (Autumn); Jake (Allison); Abbagail, Kaytlynn, Zachary, Colton & Dalton as well as 6 great-grandchildren: Mariah, Layn, Mason, Cohwen, Trey & Gianna and many nieces & nephews.

Leon was preceeded in death by his parents; siblings, Juanita, Clyde, Ralph, Clarice, Dale and 3 nephews.

He taught his kids & grandkids respect, compassion and the value of hard work…husband, dad, grandpa, great grandpa…HERO to his family.
