June L. Rider, 92, a resident of the Illinois Veterans’ Home, Quincy, formerly of Rock Island, died Friday, Feb. 18, 2011 at the home.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial is at Calvary Cemetery, Rock Island, where military honors will be presented by Moline American Post 246. Visitation is 10 am until service time Tuesday at the church, where a rosary will be recited at 10 a.m. Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, Rock Island is assisting the family. Memorials may be made to St. Pius X Catholic Church.

June was born on Aug. 18, 1918 in Davenport, the daughter of Charles V. and Florence Becker Rider.

She was a WW II Army veteran, serving as a corporal in the Women’s Army Corp. June served as a medical technician in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Battle Stars and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star.

She retired in 1984 from the Iowa-Illinois Gas and Electric Co., where she was an office manager and had 29 years of service.

June was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and the Plus 50 Group. She was also a member of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Circle 532 Daughters of Isabella and the Moline American Legion Post 246.

Survivors include her sister-in-law, Peggy Van Rider, Middleburg, Fla.; nieces, Judith McRoy and April Kane; and nephews, Jon, Jeff and Jed Van Rider. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Charles.
